Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a must see for any traveller. Enjoy the world famous boat ride under thousands of magical glowworms and become a part of over 120 years of cultural and natural history.

Marvel at Mother Nature's light display as you glide silently through the starry wonderland of the Glowworm Grotto. Meander underground along the Waitomo River and gaze in silence at the myriad of glow worm lights that make up the Glowworm Grotto. As you enter this galaxy of tiny living lights, you'll immediately experience a serene ambience and be fascinated and intrigued by tiny glowworms that light your way.

The award-winning black water rafting adventure that will have you tubing and walking through a mysterious underground world.  You will tube underneath glowworms, jump into cascading undergrounds waterfalls, and emerge into the sunlit Waitomo bush and forest.  There are adventures for all levels of fitness and each provides and unforgettable experience for visitors.

Otorohanga Kiwi House & Native Bird Park

New Zealand Kiwi Sanctuary....the best place to see Kiwi!

View active kiwi throughout the day (New Zealand’s national bird). Rare Great Spotted Kiwi, Little Spotted Kiwi and Brown Kiwi on display in a night time setting.  New Zealand’s most personal wildlife sanctuary with keeper talks & feeding displays throughout the day. Get up close and personal with our large collection of unique NZ birds and reptiles. Opportunities to help us feed the animals each day. Walk through New Zealand's largest free-flight dome aviary and see the unique tuatara, a native New Zealand reptile, which pre-dated the dinosaurs.

Waitomo 1617 Ruakuri Bush Walk 16

Ruakuri Native Bush Walk

A real highlight in Waitomo, this spectacular loop walk takes you through a forested gorge, past natural sculpted cliffs and under low limestone arches.  The track follows the stream and then winds up around a network of linestone bluffs and outcrops before descendin down to the Ruakuri Natural Bridge viewing platform.

Sir Edmond Hillary Walkway

Otorohanga's Sir Ed Hillary Walkway provides a fascinating insight into New Zealand's popular culture.  The individually display boxes in Otorohanga's main street are beautifully crafted to feature a slice of 'Kiwiana' - a tribute to New Zealand's national icons, heroes, history and way of life.  Prepare to be entertained, amused, informed and fascinated as you view the celebration of Kiwiana the Sir Ed Hillary Walkway offers.  You will find more than 20 of the Kiwiana exhibits in the walkway and several more in nearby shop windows.

Waitomo 1617 Marokopa Falls 1

Marokopa Falls

This impressice waterfall is located in Tawarau Forest, just a few kilometres' drive from Waitomo Caves.  It is an easy 15 minute return walk through Tawa and Nikau forest down to the viewing platform to view the spectacular 35m falls. 

The Marokopa Falls are included in New Zealand's must-see waterfalls list.
